How do I book a course?

How do I book a course?

We want to make applying for the OCSA programme as comfortable as possible, please choose one of the two following options to get your application process started:

  1. Apply Online: Fill out an online application form.
  2. Apply Offline: Download, print, and fill out an offline application form. When complete, you can return it to us via email: info@cbl-international.com

An email confirmation will be sent to you once we receive and review your application. When you receive the confirmation email, your spot in the programme is secured. Additional information will be sent to you at a later time.

By the way, OCSA offers a wonderful way for you to instantly save on your tuition by booking 3 months ahead of the programme start date. This “Early Bird” discount will automatically reduce your tuition cost by 100 GBP!

The OCSA Programme is designed for high school students between 14-19 years old who are looking at studying a particular subject at university as well as gaining knowledge about the university application process. Participants must be born after 1 September 1998

What kind of group of students do I join?

CBL International study abroad programmes are addressing students worldwide. The programme welcomes delegates from all over the world, and we have hosted participants from more than 90 nationalities, including North America, South America, Europe, Middle East, India, Far East, and Australia and New Zealand. You will experience a truly international summer.

 

Are there any prerequisites for taking part in OCSA?

Are there any prerequisites for taking part in OCSA?

No previous knowledge on your subject choice is required. It is possible that the contents of the different modules and lectures appear very wide ranging, but the lectures are designed to engage the participant who has no prior knowledge of topics covered. Taking account of the diversity of students’ disciplinary backgrounds, OCSA is designed to be informative for all attending delegates.

All OCSA programmes are held in English, therefore we expect all delegates to have a good level of English which allows them to interact with fellow delegates, as well as faculty members, and CBL International team members. In case you are not a native speaker, our courses offer an excellent opportunity for you to fully immerse yourself in an English-speaking environment.

What happens outside of lectures?

Besides the stimulating lectures you’ll receive from well qualified teachers and tutors, participants are kept fully engaged with a variety of extra-curricular activities, excursions to famous places and historical landmarks, and guest speakers organised by OCSA. It’ll be one of the most memorable summers you’ll ever have, we promise.

Oxford & Cambridge Summer Academy is a certificate programme. On completion of the programme, participants will receive a certificate signed by the programme director from CBL International. As CBL International is a WorldStrides organization, those individuals who have submitted assessments will receive a WorldStrides academic transcript detailing the assessments taken and results. Participating in a 2-week session of OCSA provides a delegate with 1 high school credit. College credit may also be available through one of WorldStrides’ university partners.

Where does the OCSA programme start?

Where does the OCSA programme start?

The OCSA Programme will start in either Oxford (UK) or Cambridge (UK) depending on where and what you have chosen to study. If you have decided to extend your programme to include another location (either Oxford or Cambridge) you will spend 2 weeks in your first location, and transfer to your second location for the next 2 weeks.

Do I need a visa to travel to the United Kingdom?

Do I need a visa to travel to the United Kingdom?

Depending on the type of passport you hold, you may need a visa to travel to the United Kingdom. In general, holders of passports of the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and European Union member countries do not need a visa for traveling to the United Kingdom. How do I get to Oxford?

How do I get to Oxford?

Oxford is about 60 miles (90 kms) northwest of London and has excellent road and national rail links. Regular coach services connect Oxford with the capital and also with Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton airports.

From London and Birmingham Airports

London Heathrow, London Gatwick, and Birmingham International airports are linked to Oxford by The Airline coach service, which operates a direct frequent service twenty-four hours a day (tel: +44 (0)1865 785400).

London Stansted airport is linked to Oxford by the National Express 757 coach service, running every two hours (tel: +44 (0)8705 747777).

A number of companies, including Oxicars, CCB Cars, and Findlay’s, offer pre-bookable airport transfers.

 

By Train

A direct service operates between Oxford and London Paddington (approximately every 30 minutes), and between Oxford and Birmingham New Street via Banbury and Coventry. Other services operate from the north via Birmingham New Street; from the South via Reading; and from the west via Didcot or Reading. By Coach

Frequent 24-hour direct services connect Oxford with London (peak times every 10-20 minutes). The Oxford Express service includes Victoria Coach Station, Grosvenor Gardens, Marble Arch, Baker Street/Gloucester Place and Hillingdon (tel: +44 (0)1865 785410). The Oxford Tube service includes Grosvenor Gardens, Marble Arch, Notting Hill Gate, Shepherd’s Bush, and Hillingdon (tel: +44 (0)1865 772250). For information on coaches to other major cities and airports contact National Express (tel: +44 (0)8705 808080). Coaches arrive at Gloucester Green Coach Station in the city centre.

How do I get to Cambridge?

How do I get to Cambridge?

Cambridge is about 50 miles (80km) North of London and has excellent road and rail links. Regular rail and coach services run between London and Cambridge every day.

From London Airports

Stansted is the closest airport to Cambridge, just 25 miles (40 km) or a 45-minute train ride away, so it could be worth trying to travel to and from this airport.

Luton is the second closest airport, located about 40 miles (64km) from Cambridge.

If you are flying in to London’s Heathrow or Gatwick airports there are hourly direct bus connections to Cambridge. It takes approximately 2½ hours from Heathrow and 4 hours from Gatwick. For bus timetables please see www.nationalexpress.com (On this site choose “CAMBRIDGE” as your destination, not “Cambridge Madingley Park and Ride” or “Cambridge Trumpington Park and Ride.”)

By Train

Trains to Cambridge depart from London King’s Cross Station or London Liverpool Street Station. Visit www.nationalrail.co.uk for timetables and prices.

By Coach

Coaches leave from London Victoria Coach Station to Cambridge on a regular basis. Visit www.nationalexpress.co.uk for timetables and prices.

Can Oxford & Cambridge Summer Academy arrange airport pick up and drop off for my child?

There are 2 options for airport pick up and drop off. We can welcome your child with a private, individual pick up and drop off from the airport at the beginning and end of the programme.

Alternatively we offer a shuttle service from London Heathrow to Oxford or Cambridge. This shuttle service transfers groups of students attending our programmes at high school and university level to Oxford or Cambridge. The shuttle is available for flights arriving before 6pm on arrival day and departing after 2pm on departure day.

Please note the transport services OCSA offers do not include unaccompanied minor services. If you are travelling as an unaccompanied minor please contact one of our representatives to discuss this in more detail.

When should I arrive at my programme in Oxford or Cambridge, UK?

When should I arrive at my programme in Oxford or Cambridge, UK?

Sunday is the normal day of arrival. Our staff members will welcome you and go over the check-in procedures together with you. The general check-in time is 2:00 PM. In case you arrive later than 6:00 PM, please inform us about your detailed travel arrangements. More information about arrival dates and times will clearly expressed in our “10-days-to-go” email.

Once the majority of delegates have arrived on the programme and checked in to their accommodation, the programme director and members of the OCSA team will host some meet and greet activities for delegates to get to know one another.

The OCSA programme will generally end on a Saturday. All participants are invited to the “Farewell Dinner” where certificates will be awarded on the day before, Friday. Please check-out of the programme and dormitory rooms before 10 AM on the day of departure.

Accommodation

Where will I be staying during the programme?

Where will I be staying during the programme?

The tuition fee for OCSA includes accommodation in a twin room in Oxford or Cambridge college dormitories. This is where university students of these colleges stay during the academic year. Bathroom facilities are shared, and delegates are accommodated based on their age and gender. Internet connection is normally available in all rooms. For those delegates who would like more privacy, the option of a single room with shared bathroom facilities is available. Please note that ensuite single rooms are not available.

Please be aware that dormitory rooms come in different size, shape, and style. In the case you are not satisfied with your room, there are no exchanges or refunds.

Can I use the kitchen and laundry facilities?

Delegates are accommodated on a full board basis meaning that all meals are included. Unfortunately, cooking is not allowed inside the dormitory rooms and college kitchens however supermarkets and convenience stores are located in the vicinity to purchase any additional snacks. Laundry facilities are available for use in every college campus. Charges may apply.

At OCSA, we take security and your safety seriously. Porters of all colleges supervise the entrances 24 hours a day using CCTV and are available to you at all times. OCSA also has residential members of staff with emergency mobile phones should delegates require assistance at any hour of the day.

Payments & Cancellation

What are my payment options?

What are my payment options?

All programmes require a non-refundable 200 GBP deposit to reserve your programme of choice. You can either make a full payment when you make the booking, or pay the initial deposit amount after your application is received by us and the remaining balance at a later date.

All remaining balances must to be paid at least 2 months prior to the start of a programme. If you are booking a programme within 3 months before the start date, a full payment is required at the initial booking.

*Please note that the 200 GBP deposit is not refundable under any circumstances.

The tuition fee includes:

  • Lectures & seminars including materials & hand-outs
  • Workshops on the university application process and transferable skills
  • OCSA certificate of attendance and achievement
  • WorldStrides academic transcript
  • Accommodation in a college of the University of Oxford / Cambridge (UK)
  • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the Halls
  • Internet connection (subject to availability)
  • Three excursions per 2-week session to various British cities
  • Leisure activities
  • Academic Evening talks
  • Welcome reception & Farewell dinner

What is the refund policy?

You can cancel your participation with OCSA at anytime, please be aware of the cancellation policy and cancellation terms below:

3 months prior to start date 50% of paid tuition excluding the registration fee
2 months prior to start date 25% of paid tuition excluding the registration fee
1 month prior to start date (or after the commencement of the programme) 0% of paid tuition

The 200 GBP registration fee is not refundable.

OCSA is a programme designed and offered by CBL International. We are not affiliated with the University of Oxford (UK) or the University of Cambridge (UK) in any way. All academic and accommodation facilities are leased for the duration of the programme from colleges of the University of Oxford (UK) and the University of Cambridge (UK).
